2. AI takes center stage at Davos

AI is a major topic at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland. OpenAI is working on cybersecurity projects with the Pentagon. ChatGPT is developing tools to address election disinformation risks. Altman stressed the importance of climate-friendly power for training billion-parameter models. Nadella called for a global regulatory approach to AI. These discussions provide an opportunity for global alignment on adoption and safety.

3. WHO Introduces AI Ethics And Governance Guidance For Large Multi-modal Models

The World Health Organization (WHO) has released new guidance on the ethical and responsible development and use of large multi-modal models (LMMs) in healthcare. 4. BYD Launches an AI-Powered Smart Car Technology

Chinese EV giant BYD launched its AI-powered smart car system, Xuanji, which is expected to enhance driving safety and comfort.

Accordingly, the system uses AI to “perceive changes inside and outside the vehicle in milliseconds”, which enhances driving safety and comfort.

The firm plans to invest $701.8 million to build the world’s first all-terrain professional test drive sites in China. In July last year, BYD obtained a conditional testing license for L3 autonomous driving, making it the first car company to receive such a permit in China.

5. AI skin cancer detection device gets FDA approval

DermaSensor Inc. has received FDA clearance for its non-invasive skin cancer evaluation system. The device uses AI-powered spectroscopy technology to evaluate suspicious skin lesions and provides an immediate, objective result using an FDA-cleared algorithm. The device had a sensitivity of 96% across all 224 skin cancers in the FDA pivotal study. The clearance allows primary care physicians to provide point-of-care testing for all types of skin cancer, which is expected to accelerate patient access to necessary care.
