1. OpenAI launches GPT Store and ChatGPT Team Plan

OpenAI has recently launched the GPT Store, which is now officially available for users. The store offers over 3 million GPTs created by the community, ranging across different categories and featuring a trending leaderboard and curated picks.

Moreover, a revenue program for builders in the US will be launched in Q1, which will reward creators based on user engagement with their GPTs.

OpenAI has also introduced a new ChatGPT Team Plan, which is priced at $25 per user per month (annual) or $30 per month (monthly). This plan offers a shared workspace and user management tools for a better collaborative experience.

Additionally, ChatGPT personalization and long-term memory have been rolled out, allowing GPTs to carry over memory between chats and improve over time.

2. Nvidia’s Parakeet Outshines OpenAI’s Whisper v3 in Speech Recognition

Nvidia has recently launched Parakeet, a new open-source automatic speech recognition model set, as part of its NEMO toolkit. These models were developed in partnership with Suno.ai and were trained on 64,000 audio data hours, including diverse accents and sound conditions.

The models have a parameter range of 0.6 to 1.1 billion and are highly accurate in transcribing spoken English.

In fact, they outperform OpenAI’s Whisper v3 according to benchmarks. Additionally, they are available for commercial use and can be easily integrated into projects.

3. ByteDance releases MagicVideo V2

Researchers at ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, have recently introduced MagicVideo-V2, which is a text-to-video generation model. This model consists of multiple modules and enhancements that outperform other top models in the field.

The model starts by generating a high-resolution reference image from a given text prompt. This image is then transformed into keyframe sequences at a lower resolution and later refined and extended for smoother motion.

4. Amazon & BMW’s AI Aims to Replace Car Manuals

Amazon is working with BMW to integrate AI into cars to make the car the best authoritative source about itself. They are developing a voice assistant LLM, which works with the existing BMW Personal Assistant to provide more detailed and sophisticated responses. The goal is to eliminate the need for car manuals.

However, always-on connectivity may be a major hurdle for some users. During a demo, the AI suggested revving up the engine to make other cars hear you and make changes to the car’s settings.

5. Volkswagen integrates ChatGPT into its vehicles

Volkswagen will unveil the integration of an AI-powered chatbot called ChatGPT into its IDA voice assistant at the CES 2024 electronics trade fair.

The integration offers a range of new capabilities, enabling users to control infotainment, navigation, air conditioning, and ask general knowledge questions. The AI-powered chatbot will provide additional information, making car journeys more informative and intuitive.

Volkswagen claims it is the first volume manufacturer to use ChatGPT in its cars. The technology will roll out in certain new models from the second quarter of 2024.

6. FINTRAC Uses AI to Battle Canada’s Money Laundering Crisis

Canada’s financial intelligence agency, FINTRAC, is investing heavily in artificial intelligence (AI) to tackle the country’s annual problem of approximately $100-$130 billion in money laundering. FINTRAC has faced criticism in the past for being too lenient, but it recently imposed record fines on Royal Bank of Canada and CIBC for not reporting suspicious transactions. The agency is now looking to AI to revolutionize its fight against financial crime.

According to Donna Achimov, FINTRAC’s Deputy Director for Supervision, “AI is allowing humans who have the right mindset to analyze much more data than ever before, this makes it easier to detect more suspicious activity.”
