1. OpenAI updated Multimodal ChatGPT: All GPT-4 Tools At once

OpenAI has unveiled a novel test function, dubbed "All Tools," exclusively for its paid ChatGPT subscribers. This innovative feature amalgamates the previously distinct tools, enabling the chatbot to autonomously select the appropriate tool based on the context.

The news broke on October 29th when users of the ChatGPT Plus service reported that the latest update introduced a new multimodal GPT-4 version. This cutting-edge update empowers users to upload and scrutinize a plethora of files without the need to toggle between different tools.

The revamped version encompasses all the tools, including web browsing and the text-borne diagramming tool, DALL-E 3. This signifies a major leap towards a more streamlined and efficient user experience, eliminating the need for multiple tool access. The GPT-4 update is a testament to OpenAI's commitment to continuous innovation and user-centric design.

2. Microsoft's Edge browser collects user data to train AI

Microsoft's Edge browser is collecting user data to help personalize the Copilot AI assistant, WindowsCentral reports. Users can turn off this feature via the Edge browser settings action.

3.  New DeepMind study assesses social and ethical risks of generative AI

On October 19, Google DeepMind released a new paper on its official website that proposes a three-tier framework for assessing the social and ethical risks of generative AI systems, including assessments of AI system capabilities, human interactions, and system impacts. The study builds on earlier research to identify potential risks to large-scale language models, such as privacy breaches, job automation, and misinformation, and introduces a method for comprehensively assessing these risks in the future. By mapping the current state of security assessment, the research team identified three major security assessment gaps: context, risk-specific assessment, and multimodality.

4. Cruise suspends all driverless operations nationwide

General Motors' autonomous vehicle unit, Cruise, is suspending its driverless operations across the U.S. following concerns about public safety. The decision comes after the California Department of Motor Vehicles revoked Cruise's license due to perceived dangers its driverless cars pose to the public. The company, which had recently started transporting passengers in San Francisco, is also under investigation by U.S. regulators for potential risks to pedestrians and passengers. Cruise announced that it is pausing operations to review its processes, systems, and tools to better earn public trust.
